Sabino Guisu

Sabino Guisu, born in Juchitán, Oaxaca in 1986, the son of an artist who was close to the first socialist movement in Oaxaca; COCEI (Coalición Obrero Campesino Estudiantil del Istmo), and was highly nourished by the cultural project that fell off of it. At age 19, he travels to the city of Oaxaca to study music, but decides for the visual arts. Endowed with great creativity and a rootedness in the use of natural materials and a great notion of art history provided by his work as a librarian at the Graphic Arts Institute of Oaxaca also founded by the artist Francisco Toledo, the work of Sabino is characterized by a profound criticism rife with irony, questioning and highlighting the problems that interest him as blackness, ecology, consumerism.
