Kike Ortega

Art may be defined in a myriad of ways. The most fitting definition according to Kike Ortega is that “art is anything that makes something appear in a new light.”

“I use discarded materials for many of my pieces and work instinctively. Exploring new materials gives me a lot of freedom to be creative. An artist must have a knack for discovering possibilities where others see nothing.

When I paint, I allow the painting to speak with rawness and honesty through materials like concrete, metal, or wood, allowing each one to add value, such as a punch, warmth, or firmness. In working to balance the elements in the best way possible, the balance takes form and becomes part of a larger discourse.”
